General Alexander Nelson Hood was 1st Viscount Bridport 4th Duke of Bronte GCB (23rd Dec 1814 - 4 June 1904); a soldier and courtier.

He was a Colonel in the Royal Scots Fusiliers 1854, Major General 1862, Lieutenant General 1871, General 1877. Groom-in-Waiting from 1841-1858. Clerk Marshall to Prince Albert 1853-1861. Equerry to Queen Victoria 1858-1884. Permanent Lord-in-Waiting to Queen Victoria 1884-1901. Honorary Equerry to King Edward VII 1901-1904. Succeeded his father as 3rd Lord Bridport in 1868, the same year the Viscouncy held by his Great Uncle was revived. He was created Viscount Bridport of Cricket St Thomas in Somserset and of Bronte in the Kingdom of Italy.
