The Great Hoggarty Diamond

The Great Hoggarty Diamond: Memoirs of Mr C.J. Yellowplush and Burlesques. By William Makepeace Thackeray, Volume VIII in the Collected Edition published by Smith Elder, 1872. Green cloth boards. Very Good. 627 pages, foxing to endpapers and edges.

From the Library of Jacques Cartier with his blue leather bookplate on inside front board.
Engraved frontis.

Jacques Cartier (1885-1942) one of three sons of Alfred Cartier, the founder of the famed jewellery house. Jacques established the iconic shop at 175 New Bond Street which he ran until his death in 1942.

The Hoggarty Diamond is a cautionary tale showing the power of diamonds in society. It must of been of great interest to Jacques Cartier.

An interesting association copy.
