Sir Walter Scott As A Poet
Sir Walter Scott as a Poet by Gilbert Malcolm Sproat, Published by Edmonston & Douglas, Edinburgh, 1871.
Hard Cover. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 102 pages.
Book has fielded blue buckram boards with gilt titling and decoration which is still bright. The boards have wear at the corners and spine cover ends but elsewhere wear is light with the body of the boards being clean. Inside is clean and sharply printed on good quality paper with slight overall browning.
Rare appreciation of Sir Walter Scott's poetical output by an author who was perhaps better known as the writer of "Education of the Rural Poor" the year before. Chapters cover the significance of the Walter Scott centenary celebrations, a portrait of Scott's character and analyses of various types of his poetry.
The book is inscribed on the title page in a neat hand: "Mary Wylie from the Author".
