Nicely preserved copy of Lord Tollemache's classic account of the game, illustrated with 91 B&W photos and drawings. Perhaps the most interesting feature is the pocket at the rear which contains 6 fold-out diagrams (9"x8") and one of the two diagrams illustrating p. 39 and one large coloured plan. There is an envelope containing 2 red, 2 black, 2 yellow and 2 blue counters plus one gold-coloured button.
Lord Bentley Lyonel John 3rd Baron Tollemache (1883-1955) was a croquet player and instructor who lived at Helmingham Hall, Suffolk.
Book has turquoise cloth boards with gilt titling and decoration and is clean with only minor edge wear. Inside is clean with no inscriptions. 195 pages
